The current season of Downton Abbey is set to come to a close this weekend and Lily James has now spoken out about her time on the show, saying that she would “love” to star in a fifth series.

Michelle Dockery previously revealed that the “core cast” had all signed up for another run and Lily, who plays Lady Rose MacClaire has now told Digital Spy that she would also love to return.

“I’d love to [do it],” the actress told the website, adding: “I’m really enjoying developing her.

“In the first year, she was in a bit of a whirlwind, a bit intense, so it’s been really fun playing her this [fourth] series to find lights and shades and see the more sensitive side to her.”

Lily also added that she was intrigued by the possibility of a Downton Abbey movie.

“Why not?” said the 24-year-old. “[Though] our Christmas special is two hours anyway, so I guess they’d have to do something a bit different with it.”

Meanwhile, in other Downton news, people have been speculating over whether or not there will be a death in this year’s Christmas special.

However, the hit drama’s executive producer, Liz Trubridge has now told TV & Satellite Week: “Nobody dies, that much I can tell you,” she said, adding: “I am sorry about last year, but what do you do when you have a treasured character who wants to leave? But we won’t do that this time!”

But, just because there won’t be any deaths doesn’t mean there will be less drama as Trubridge went on to comment: “It is packed full of story and it is without question the biggest episode we have ever done, it is the most spectacular, it’s not set at Christmas and we won’t be splitting up the family and the servants this time.”

We can’t wait to see what’s in store!
