THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER – The undead are no match for the Bennet sisters.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ first trailer debuted at the Screen Gems panel at Comic-Con on Saturday in Hall H, showing Elizabeth Bennet in all her dagger-swinging glory.

Director Burr Steers directed the film adaptation of author Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel, which stars Lily James, Sam Riley, Matt Smith, Douglas Booth, Jack Huston and Lena Headey. The film focuses on the heroes of Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice as they face the zombie apocalypse.

“Not only is she master of the female arts but the deadly as well,” a character says of Elizabeth (James) in the trailer.

James told the Hall H crowd that her Elizabeth will be a “fierce” one. “Being us five girls, the Bennet sisters, fighting together and destroying together was really, really fun,” she said of her castmembers.

Matt Smith (Mr. Collins) said that the film maintains what readers are used to from Austen’s book, except that “people’s heads are getting blown off.” He added: “Zombies are exactly what Pride and Prejudice needed, I think.”

Jack Huston (Mr. Wickham) was rather tight-lipped when asked how his character has changed from the book, explaining that he was reluctant to give too much away. But he did say that, of all the film’s characters, Wickham had been altered the most from Austen’s iteration.

Grahame-Smith said he didn’t have a lot of notes for Steers, as he was “just excited it was getting made,” given the project’s “false starts.”

“My intention was taking all of [Austen’s] themes and turning them up to 11,” Grahame-Smith continued.

Screen Gems releases Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in theaters Feb. 5, 2016.
