RADIO TIMES – Downton Abbey has been nominated for 12 Primetime and Creative Arts Emmy awards, including nods for outstanding drama series and directing.

We’re sure the inhabitants of the grand country pile – both upstairs and down – would be very pleased.

Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary, was nominated for leading actress, while Maggie Smith and Joanne Froggatt, who play Violet Crawley and Anna Bates respectively, are vying for the supporting actress gong.

When it comes to the boys, Jim Carter, who plays Mr Carson, is up for outstanding supporting actor and Paul Giamatti, who starred in the Christmas episode as Cora’s brother Harold Levinson, has been recognised in the outstanding guest actor in a drama series category.

The hit period drama, which is written by Julian Fellowes, has also received nominations in art direction, costume, hairstyling, music composition and sound mixing.

Downton, which has 10 Emmy wins under its belt so far, was nominated in the same number of categories last year, but picked up only music composition.

The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards take place on 25 August 2014.
