HD screencaptures from episodes 6 & 7 of ‘Downton Abbey’ have been added to the gallery.

THE GUARDIAN – ITV has commissioned a sixth series of Downton Abbey, which will start filming early next year.

The broadcaster’s director of drama commissioning, Steve November, said on Thursday that the show continues to be “a phenomenon”.

He said the network doesn’t know yet what series writer Julian Fellowes has planned for his much-loved characters.

The Bafta and Emmy award-winning show follows the fates of the aristocratic Crawley clan and their servants amid the social upheavals of the 1910s and 1920s.

The fifth series of Downton Abbey is currently airing on ITV and starts 4 January on PBS in the US. The show is made by co-produced by UK company Carnival Films, a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, and PBS’ Masterpiece drama strand.

RADIO TIMES – This Sunday, series five of Downton Abbey will come to an end with a suitably special occasion: the wedding of Lady Rose and Atticus Aldridge.

The newly engaged pair have wasted no time tying the knot but when it comes to Rose’s wedding dress, there will be no skimping on style, either.

“Lady Rose would have had her wedding dress made especially for her big day, so I was anticipating having to make something for her from scratch,” says Anna Mary Scott Robbins, Downton’s costume designer, in this week’s Radio Times.

“As it happened, we had the biggest stroke of luck” – finding a beaded, original 1920s dress that matched Rose’s “feminine, pretty and frivolous” style.
